Marrikur are fully committed to having the smallest impact on the environment as possible and continually research for new materials and processes that are currently available to that end. In addition we believe in creating as little waste as possible and adhere to the principles of the circular economy in using scrap items towards creating other products and uses. This is an evolving process with the aim to continually improve.

The Leathers we use for our Marquetry work

We use pure, untreated vegetable tanned leather for our marquetry work which has excellent durability and is a by-product of the EU meat industry which comply with EU legislation on animal welfare, no animals are reared purely for their hides. It is sourced from the Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium in Italy which guarantees manufacturing processes compatible with social responsibility and sustainability. The leather is tanned using natural plant based tannins from renewable sources, is metal free and certified by EMAS adhering to strictly controlled guidelines ensuring the implementation of responsible environmental strategies. Tanning waste water is reused and is turned into raw materials for other supply chains. Periodic checks are made on compliance with an Independent certification body.

The fabric we use

Our cushions are made from silk like TENCEL™ derived from wood grown from renewable, sustainably managed forests rather than using fabrics that have a high water usage in their production processes. TENCEL™ we are using is produced in a sound closed-loop process that recycles the elements involved at a recovery rate of more than 99%.

All fittings are researched for their ecological properties. For example the zips in our cushions are Bluesign® approved and recycled from materials such as PET bottles. The yarn in the zip tape is made from more than 99% post consumer recycled material.
